CLASS FORMAT: This is a case-based course with lectures supplemented by text readings and case studies.

REQUIRED READINGS: Textbook, cases, course reader.

BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE: Final grades will be based on individual and group case analyses and presentations, participation, a midterm and a final examination.

ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
Strategic Case Analysis will focus on developing critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills applied to business case analyses.  Students will learn a structured approach to the analysis of business problems, case studies, and case interviews.  Particular attention will be paid to developing skills that foster creative solutions to both clearly defined and less defined business dilemmas.  BA 196-2 will also focus on integrating the core curriculum of the undergraduate business program.  Students considering employment in the consulting industry may be particularly interested in this course.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Diane Dimeff is the director of the Haas School of Business Evening MBA Program.  Formerly, she was a management consultant at KPMG Peat Marwick and the director of the MBA Program at the University of San Francisco, where she also taught Quantitative Methods for Business Decisions.  Ms. Dimeff earned her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Mathematics from UC, Berkeley, earned her MBA from Haas as well, and was a mathematics instructor at both private and public secondary schools.
