Subsidized Loan Eligibility Requirements
Federal Loans:
To be eligible for a Direct Subsidized Loan, a student must meet the general Federal Loan eligibility requirements, as well as demonstrate financial need. Financial need is determined by the information you provide on the FAFSA and the resulting "Expected Family Contribution (EFC)." The EFC is not what you will owe toward your fees/tuition; it's best to think of it as an index that helps the University assess the amount of need-based aid you qualify for from the federal government.

The following formula determines the amount of Subsidized Loan funding you are eligible to receive each year:

Estimated Cost of Attendance*

Subsidized Eligibility

If the resulting number (Subsidized Eligibility) is greater than $0.00, then that amount--up to $8,500--can be awarded in a Direct Subsidized Loan. *Estimated Cost of Attendance includes fees/tuition, books/supplies, and a moderate living expense budget. Please see the Costs of Program page for details. *Other resources includes any scholarships, fee waivers and sponsorships and employer assistance that you might be receiving.
