Some of the companies and organizations that participated
in our program in 2005.
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a contract research organisation involved in many international assignments. With its 3000 employees, VTT provides a wide range of technology and applied research services for its clients, private companies, institutions and the public sector. VTT is again engaging IBD teams this year.
JSP's task is to develop and reinforce business activity that is based on new knowledge and technology, as well as to create the preconditions for the same. They promote in particular the commercial exploitation of research findings and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Their job is to weave nets: establishing contacts and bring the right people together, providing resources or seeking them out. They look for missing pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. There are many people with expert knowledge; JSP's role is to help them form win-win-win chains. Two teams will be working with JSP this year.
The Sonoran Institute works with communities to conserve and
restore important natural landscapes in Western North America,
including the wildlife and cultural values of these lands.
The Institute's efforts create lasting benefits, including
healthy landscapes and vibrant livable communities that embrace
conservation as an integral element of their economies and
quality of life.
The Sewlanka
Foundation was established in 1993 as a development NGO
with a mandate to address the needs of the most vulnerable
communities in the most neglected and disadvantaged regions
of Sri Lanka.
Venture Strategies is a nonprofit organization created to improve the health of low income people in resource-poor settings, by making use of existing market forces around the world. For example, they are working to make needed high quality, low cost, off patent pharmaceutical products available to people not reached by government health services, and reducing respiratory disease with cleaner burning stoves.
Janani is a nonprofit Indian Society and is an affiliate of DKT-International, the Washington-headquartered charitable organization. For the third year in a ow we will be working in Bihar on assignment with Janana.

This program offers an exceptional learning opportunity to mid-career professionals and policy makers to gain expertise, enhance their skills and broaden their perspectives on sustainable environmental management. For the third year, graduates of the BELP are engaging IBD teams through the Beahrs Small Grants Initiative. This year we will be woking in Nepal. Previous years saw teams in Kalimantan, Indonesia, Cameroon and the Republic of South Africa.
Ashesi University is a subsidiary of Ashesi University Foundation, a non-profit, publicly supported US corporation based in Seattle, Washington. Their mission is to train a new generation of ethical and entrepreneurial business leaders in Africa.
GrameenPhone started its operations on March 26, 1997 as a joint venture between four companies from as many countries: Grameen Telecom of Bangladesh, Telenor AS of Norway, Marubeni Corp. of Japan and Gonofone Development Corp. of the United States. GrameenPhone presently has more than 820,000 subscribers, commanding 70 percent of the market share.
Tekes,
the National Technology Agency is the main public financing
and expert organisation for research and technological development
in Finland. Tekes finances industrial R&D projects as
well as projects in research institutes. Tekes especially
promotes innovative, risk-intensive projects.
