International Business Development Program - Description
For seventeen years now, the Haas School has been sending talented, experienced teams of MBA students overseas to work for a variety of companies. Multinational corporations such as Ford, Lucent, Bechtel, Bertelsmann, Citibank, Qualcomm, Motorola, Hughes Aerospace, and Levi Strauss & Co., as well as smaller companies such as Behn GmbH of Germany and Accu Computer in Ghana, have hired teams of Haas MBAs, coordinated by international experts, to provide thorough, precise assessments of competitive, market and economic conditions. The World Bank and IFC have also incorporated teams into their projects.
Based on project findings, companies have made decisions to move into new markets and to redirect their efforts overseas. One firm saw revenues increase dramatically after Haas MBAs restructured its Russian venture. Another firm brought an entirely new industry into Malaysia following Haas feasibility studies. Impressed by the depth of analysis and the practical and attainable recommendations, companies have hired Haas MBA teams for several consecutive years.
Nonprofit organizations too, have used Haas MBA teams. The Grameen Bank of Bangladesh has had teams of Haas students each of the last five years to assist its efforts to improve the country's standard of living through innovative investments in people and infrastructure. A Zimbabwean game preserve, seeking to improve the well-being of the people in the surrounding villages, also turned to a Haas team for advice.
