| Description: | The General
Assembly of the United Nations designated 2005 as the International
Year of Microcredit. It invited governments, organizations,
the private sector and the media to help raise the profile and
build the capacity of the microcredit and microfinance sectors.
November 18, 2004 marked the official launch date. The Clausen Center accepted the U N's challenge to raise the awareness of Microfinance as a means of eradicating global poverty by sponsoring the Microfinance Conference on November 18 and 19, 2004. Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder and Managing Director of the Grameen Bank and John Hatch, Founder of FINCA headlined an impressive list of speakers and panelists with experience from many different facets of microfinance. On the evening of Thursday, November 18, the Center hosted a dinner at which participants discussed microfinance with the speakers and panelists.
