MBA TRANSFER POLICY
DAY TO EVENING & WEEKEND PROGRAM
EVENING & WEEKEND TO DAY MBA PROGRAM
Policy on Transferring From the Day MBA Program to the
Evening & Weekend MBA (EWMBA) Program
On a space-available basis, Full-time MBA students will
be allowed to transfer to the EWMBA Program in the Fall. Each
February, the EWMBA Program office will provide the FT Office
with a number of additional students that the EWMBA Program
can accommodate. This number will be based on the most current
forecast of the number of EWMBA students continuing and returning
in that Fall, and on the number of seats in elective classes
expected to be available.
By February 15th, any eligible Full-time student who is
in good academic standing (i.e., has a grade point average
above 3.0 and has successfully completed all core courses
before transferring) and wishes to transfer will be required
to complete the following documents to the Transfer Committee
in the EWMBA Program Office:
- Change of Major Form requesting a transfer from the FT MBA
Program to the EWMBA Program.
- One essay answering the following questions (1 page): What
is your reason(s) for requesting the transfer including any
circumstances that have changed since your application to
the FT MBA Program? How will this transfer facilitate your
academic and career goals?
- Up-to-date resume detailing professional experiences,
academic accomplishments and other relevant information
(maximum length of 2 pages).
After reviewing all of the applications, the Transfer Committee
may invite the applicants for an interview. Admission to the EWMBA
Program will be based on the criteria including:
- Quality of professional experience
- Leadership potential
- Academic ability
Those who are approved to transfer will be given two weeks
to decide. This decision needs to be made by the deadline
so that those on the wait-list will have sufficient time to
decide. Once a student has accepted the offer to transfer,
the decision will be irrevocable for the subsequent Fall semester.
Transfer students must complete 44 units in the EW Program
to graduate. Credits earned in the FT Program will be applied
toward the 44 credits. The extra 2 units account for the Data
and Decisions core course already taken in the FT MBA core.
Once students transfer, the remaining units need to be completed
in 2 years for a total of 3 years to graduate.
Transfer students may return to the FT MBA Program after finishing
the first semester in the EWMBA Program. Students interested
in pursuing this option should refer to the Policy on Transferring
From the EWMBA Program to the FT MBA Program referenced below.
POLICY ON TRANSFERRING FROM THE EVENING & WEEKEND MBA (EWMBA) PROGRAM TO THE DAY MBA PROGRAM
On a space-available basis, a small number of students (historically
at most 5) from the EWMBA program will be allowed to transfer to the
Full-time MBA Program in the Fall. Each February, the Full-time MBA
Program Office will provide the Evening and Weekend MBA Program Office
with a number of additional students that the FT MBA Program can
accommodate. This number will be based on the most current forecast of
the number of FT MBA students continuing and returning in that Fall,
and on the number of seats in elective classes expected to be available.
This opportunity is only available to first-year EWMBA students who
desire to transfer after completion of their core courses.
By February 15th, any eligible EWMBA student who is in good
academic standing (i.e., has a grade point average above 3.0
and has successfully completed all core courses before transferring)
and wishes to transfer will be required to submit the following
documents to the Transfer Committee in the FT MBA Program
office:
- Change of Major Form requesting a transfer from the EWMBA
Program to the FT MBA Program.
- Two essays answering the following questions (1 page
per essay):
1. What is your reason(s) for requesting the
transfer including any circumstances that have changed since
your application to the EWMBA Program? How will this transfer
facilitate your academic and career goals?
2. How do you plan to contribute to the FT MBA
Program? Please include examples from your involvement with
the EWMBA Program.
- Up-to-date Resume detailing professional experiences,
academic accomplishments and other relevant information (maximum
length of 2 pages).
After reviewing all of the applications, the Transfer Committee
may invite the applicants for an interview. Admission to the
FT MBA Program will be based on the criteria including: -
Quality of professional experience
- Leadership potential
- Academic ability
- Willingness to contribute to the FT Program
Those who are approved to transfer will be given two weeks
to decide. This decision needs to be made by the deadline
so that those on the wait-list will have sufficient time to
decide. Once a student has accepted the offer to transfer,
the decision will be irrevocable for the subsequent Fall semester.
The transfer students must complete 51 units in the FT program
to graduate. Credits earned in the EWMBA Program will applied
toward the 51 units. Once students transfer, the remaining
units must be completed over 3 semesters. Therefore, transfer
students must complete the FT MBA Program at the end of 5
semesters, but not less than 5 semesters (this includes the
first two semesters of the EWMBA Program).
Transfer students are expected to register for a full load
of courses (12 or 13 units) each semester but must register
for a minimum of 8 units. If transfer students fall below
the normal load of units either because they fail a course
or choose to take a lower load, they will need to take an
overload in subsequent semester(s).
Transfer students may return to the EWMBA Program after finishing
the first semester in the FT Program. Students interested
in pursuing this option should refer to the Policy on Transferring
From the FT MBA Program to the EWMBA Program. This policy
is located on the Haas web site at
http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/MBA/TransferPolicy.html#dmba.
