You have the option of earning a certificate in one of five specialties by completing designated courses and special projects. These certificate programs can enrich your understanding and capabilities in an area that interests you. Two other programs – Nonprofit and Public Management and the Center for Responsible Business – offer still more opportunities to specialize.

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

Leveraging the Haas School’s proximity to Silicon Valley, this program integrates classroom and extracurricular activities. Required coursework introduces you to the basic skills needed to: identify entrepreneurial opportunities, design a business, obtain financing and manage the growth process. You will gain first-hand field experience as an intern with a young company and by completing a project to create a new business enterprise of your own design. Certificate in Global Management

Demonstrate your proficiency and experience in the theory and application of global business and management principles with a certificate in global management. Requirements fall into three areas: overseas experience, eight units in international business courses and proficiency in a language other than English. The language requirement may be completed at Berkeley. You may fulfill the overseas experience requirement through semester exchange study, a summer internship, significant business experience outside your home country or by participating in International Business Development (MBA297), which includes a field consulting project in a developing country. To apply, you must present a “certificate plan” to the Director of International Affairs before January 31 of your second year at Haas. This program prepares you for business leadership roles in the health services and health technology sectors by combining rigorous academic training with practical applications in real-world settings. It provides you with skills and background in managed care and insurance, consulting, health care delivery, biotechnology, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. You learn about health services and technology management, strategic planning, finance, economics, cost-benefit/effectiveness analysis, information technology, law and regulatory policy. Offered jointly by the Haas School and the College of Engineering, this certificate program offers courses designed for students with or without technical training. Courses address how technological capabilities shape and help accomplish the strategic and operational objectives of an organization. Topics covered include identifying and evaluating technological opportunities, managing information technology, collaborative research and new product development. Professional education in real estate crosses many academic disciplines. This certificate is evidence of that, in addition to the fundamental material in the MBA Program, you have successfully mastered the intricacies of managing, developing and financing real estate. You must complete three of the five graduate real estate courses offered at Haas, plus any two courses among the disciplines of city and regional planning, architecture, law and public policy. Corporate social responsibility has long been a focus at Haas. Our Center for Responsible Business explores topics such as environmental management, strategic corporate social responsibility and business strategies for emerging markets in a series of programs and through research, experiential learning programs and community outreach. Core courses, electives, and extracurricular activities combine to expose you to various aspects of corporate social responsibility. The Center hosts the Peterson Lectures, which brings top industry speakers to campus.
