It is 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning, and the alarm clock is ringing. I hit the snooze button until 6:30. My husband Siva, who has already been up for two hours, comes into the room and tells me I have to get up. At 7:00 a.m., he comes in, shuts off the alarm, and actually makes me get out of bed.

It is 9:00 a.m., and I am starting my day enjoying breakfast and reading email in the sunshine on my balcony. This morning, I am catching up after being away for the weekend at a business case event, the Elite Eight Marketing Case Competition.

The alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. My husband Amit, who is an investment banker, is getting ready for work, so I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock to get a much needed extra fifteen minutes of sleep. I am not a morning person, but today is a busy day at school, so I get out of bed by 6:15 a.m.

9:40 a.m.: I stumble over to my alarm clock and start the day. I am a night owl and still a bit groggy from an early morning flight from the East Coast the day before. After checking a few emails, I shower and grab breakfast, and bike off to class.

It is Wednesday morning around 7:00 a.m. Today, I am up earlier than usual to review an accounting problem set and prepare for a marketing case discussion. As I finish up with the case, I enjoy a quick breakfast and catch a bus to school.

I awake to peace and quiet on Wednesday morning in my in-law studio in North Berkeley, quite a change from the sound of early morning garbage trucks and traffic of New York City.

Do not be fooled. Just because classes start at 10:30 a.m., it is not a good idea to wake up at 9:45, with just enough time to shower and make it to class. If I didn’t get a good amount of work done in the morning, I don’t know when I’d ever fit it in. My day usually starts around 8:00 a.m., when I jump on the internet, check emails, and set myself for the day.

I roll out of bed after teasing myself with the snooze button a few times. It’s Thursday. I only have one class today and can taste the coming weekend. I’ll finally spend some time with my wife, who is now used to seeing very little of me. A smile crosses my face and I relax.

Throughout the week, the alarm clock at my house goes off at 6:30 a.m. My boyfriend Russ works as a web programmer at a nonprofit in San Francisco, so I try to leave the house with him in the morning and get to Haas by 9:00 to start my “work” day. After a long week of classes and social events, it is hard to head out this early on a Friday, but today I have a busy schedule.

“Tofu, don’t forget we need to buy tofu… the firm kind.” My fiancé Josh’s voice breaks into my stupor as I stand on the sidewalk outside Bette’s Oceanview Diner. After a full breakfast, I am steadily slipping into a dangerous food coma, but thankfully, his interjection has reminded me of our mission for the morning.

Sundays are when my schedule becomes crazy again. After a week of classes and a fun Saturday, Sunday is the day I get into gear and start my Haas week again. However, it takes me a while to get out of bed.
