Federal Loans FAQ's

When will my loan funds be available?

Provided you have completed all the necessary steps for your loan to be disbursed, (FAFSA, submitted any requested documents, Entrance Counseling, MPN, accepted loans on BearFacts, enrolled in at least 6 units), your loans will be scheduled for disbursement to the Campus Accounts Receivables System as follows:

Please note that the above dates are for the initial run of disbursements. If you do not complete the necessary documentation until after the above dates, your loan will be processed for disbursement on the next disbursement run.*

fter the loan has disbursed to CARS, it will take approximately 24 hours for the disbursement to be reflected online. The loan will then be applied towards any outstanding university-related fees, and then any remaining amount from the disbursement will be processed as a refund to you via EFT (a refund typically takes three business day to process). The first batch of refunds for the fall semester is generated on August 22nd; the first batch for spring semester is generated on January 18th.

Interest will begin accruing on the Direct Unsubsidized Loan and Grad PLUS Loan from the date the refund is processed.

*Once all loan paperwork has been completed your loan will be submitted to the Direct Loans for origination-- a process referred to as batching. Batching of loans only happens three times per week and typically takes 24 hours to complete. Once the batching process has been completed, the loan originated, and the approval for disbursement received, your loans will disburse from the financial aid system to CARS (Campus Accounts Receiveables System). Disbursements to CARS are only run three times per week as well -- Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The entire process takes approximately five days.

You can confirm your loan disbursement on BearFacts. Select Financial Aid, and then "Award Summary." If a disbursement has been made, the amount will be displayed under "Amount sent to CARS."
