2006 - 2007 Supplemental Loan Options for Haas MBA Students

US Citizens & permanent residents:

Effective July 1st, 2007, the maximum annual Direct Loan available to business students will increase to $20,500. Even with this increase, many students require supplemental educational loans to help cover tuition and other expenses related to the cost of attendance. Funds from the supplemental loan programs may be used to meet the budgeted cost of attendance, less any other financial aid received.

The Haas School Office of Financial Aid has created a Loan Options Overview, which includes general information on the new Federal Grad PLUS Loan. Should you decide to take out a Federal Grad PLUS loan, we have created a flyer detailing the Federal Grad PLUS application process.

In addition to the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan (discussed in the Loan Options Overview), there are three private supplemental loan options available at Haas. The three programs being offered for 2006-07 are the Sallie Mae UC Preferred Loan; the Business Access Loan; and the CitiAssist Loan.

For more information, including a comparsion chart, on the three private supplemental loans, please refer to the US Private Supplemental Loan Comparison Chart.

International Students:

The Haas School of Business is pleased to offer three different loan programs for International Students for the 2006-07 academic year. All three loan programs are available without the use of a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident as a co-signer; however, using a co-signer could secure you better terms on the loan. The three programs being offered for 2006-07 are the Sallie Mae UC Preferred Loan; the Comprehensive Access Loan; and the CitiAssist Loan.

For a detailed comparison of the loans available, please refer to our International Private Loan Comparison Chart.

Loans are always disbursed in two payments, 50% each semester, after you are enrolled for classes. Loan proceeds will credit your CARS account and pay any outstanding charges. If a balance remains, the refund will be sent to your bank account IF you have completed an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) Agreement, http://eftstudent.berkeley.edu
