PREREQUISITE(S):  UGBA 102A, 102B and recommended 120A

 
CLASS FORMAT (Will there be lectures, cases, or a mixture?): Class format is lecture (student participation and case done in groups) three hours per week and discussion session two hours per week.   Homework assignments are turned in weekly and there is an outside of class team project involving the analysis of two company’s financial reports.

 REQUIRED READINGS (Not a list of specific readings but a statement of whether you will use a textbook, cases, course reader, readings on reserve,or a mixture.):  Textbooks and company financial statements.

 

BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE (midterm, final, paper(s), project(s), class

participation, or a mixture): Mixture of midterms, final, group work and outside project.

 

ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:

-Summarize different business combination types and key accounting issues

-Understand differences between consolidations using cost, equity and valuation methods of accounting.

-Prepare consolidated financial statements for acquired subsidiaries

-Account for and eliminate inter-company transactions

-Draft disclosures for segment reporting

-Create financial statements for interim reporting

-Understand and account for the formation, admission, and liquidation of partnerships

-Describe and record transactions for governmental and not-for-profit financial statements

-Account for foreign currency, derivatives and off balance sheet financing
