Guidelines for Haas Undergraduate Student OrganizationsI. Privileges of Haas affiliation/sponsorship
a. Haas-affiliated student organizations have the following privileges:
i. Club advising from the Undergraduate Office staff
ii. Dialogue with club presidents through a restricted email alias
iii. Participation in monthly Director's Advisory Council (DAC) meetings
iv. Approved use of the name of the University and the Haas School of Business
b. Haas-sponsored organizations have the following privileges:
i. All privileges given to Haas-affiliated student organizations
ii. Ability to reserve Haas classrooms and meeting rooms
iii. Office space allocation and mailbox use in the Haas Club Office (C122)
iv. Voting power to decide upon any motion brought to the floor at DAC meetings
v. Official haas.berkeley.edu website directory
II. Procedure for Obtaining Haas Affiliation
a. Register as a student organization with Office of Student Life (102
Sproul Hall).
i. This includes club registration, submission of constitution, attendance
of a student group orientation, and registration of four student signatories.
ii. Club registration can be verified online at osl.berkeley.edu.
b. Prepare a five-minute presentation describing:
i. The purpose, mission, and goals of the organization.
ii. Examples of activities and services planned.
iii. How the organization serves a need not already provided by existing
groups.
iv. How the organization serves the larger Haas undergraduate community.
c. Email the VP of Student Organizations one week (at latest) before the
second DAC meeting to request a presentation time slot.
d. Attend the second DAC meeting and make the five-minute presentation to
the DAC.
i. Each affiliation request will be reviewed and voted on at the DAC meeting.
ii. Voting will proceed by ballot vote, with options of (1) grant affiliation,
or (2) deny affiliation.
iii. Affiliation requests will be granted by majority vote of Haas-sponsored
organizations.
III. Procedure for Obtaining Haas Sponsorship
a. Maintain affiliate status for at least one semester.
b. Prepare a five-minute presentation describing:
i. The purpose, mission, and goals of the organization.
ii. Examples of activities and services planned.
iii. How the organization serves a need not already provided by existing
groups.
iv. How the organization serves the larger Haas undergraduate community.
v. Why the organization previously lost sponsorship status, and what steps
have been taken to prevent further infraction of rules (if applicable).
c. Email the VP of Student Organizations one week (at latest) before the
second DAC meeting to request a presentation time slot.
d. Attend the second DAC meeting and make the five-minute presentation to
the DAC.
i. Each sponsorship request will be reviewed and voted on at the DAC meeting.
ii. Voting will proceed by ballot vote, with options of (1) grant sponsorship,
(2) deny sponsorship but maintain affiliation, or (3) remove affiliation.
iii. Sponsorship requests will be granted by majority vote of Haas-sponsored
organizations.
IV. Requirements to Maintain Affiliation/Sponsorship Status
a. Maintain active registration with the Office of Student Life (102 Sproul
Hall).
b. Maintain updated officer contact information in DAC records.
c. Actively participate in all DAC meetings and DAC-sponsored events.
d. Table in the Haas Courtyard at Haas New Student Orientation and Cal Day
(only required for Haas-sponsored organizations).
V. Loss of Affiliation/Sponsorship Status
a. Affiliation/sponsorship status may be rescinded for any of the following
reasons:
i. Failure of members to comply with University and campus rules and policies.
ii. Misuse of affiliation/sponsorship privileges, such as abuse of campus
property, the University or Haas name, or mailing lists.
iii. Failure to comply with the organization's stated constitution and code
of conduct.
iv. Failure to meet any of the Requirements to Maintain Affiliation/Sponsorship
Status.
b. Any change in affiliation/sponsorship status will take effect immediately.
i. Major infractions will result in withdrawal of all Haas affiliation with
an organization.
ii. Absence from a DAC meeting or event will result in a status drop (from
sponsored to affiliated, or from affiliated to un-affiliated).
iii. Status drop due to absence from a DAC meeting or event can be regained
in the following semester by undergoing the original application process.
