Graduate Program in Health Management
Faculty, Lecturers, and Practitioners
The only way to keep ahead of the dynamic changes in the health services and technology markets is to recruit faculty members who are not only among the best researchers in the world, but also whose research have proven to be keenly attuned to business applications. The program sees research as an integral component of its health management mission. Together with the School of Public Health (SPH), program faculty actively engage in applied research that both broadens the educational experience and expands the state of knowledge about how the health services system works.
There are opportunities for interested students to work with faculty members on research projects. Examples of current faculty research include studies of:
- physician payment for quality;
- hospital-physician integration;
- international health and welfare programs;
- expansion of health insurance coverage;
- assessing medical technologies;
- financing healthcare for the poor.
GHPM students have the faculties of both the Haas School of Business and the School of Public Health's Division of Health Policy and Management available to them. Within these two faculties are the specific professors listed below, who are most likely to be teaching courses that focus on health management. The program views its partnerships with industry as an essential aspect of both its training and research missions. Seminars in health management, biotechnology, and consulting allow industry leaders to present real world cases. In addition, the program sponsors seminars and a working paper series, holds an annual conference for practitioners and policy makers, and funds applied research partnered with local health-related businesses.
In addition to UC Berkeley faculty, program students have the opportunity to regularly interact with practitioners in the field. They are participants in seminars and panels. Recent speakers (affiliations at the time of presentation):
