Health Management Certificate
Certificate Requirements
The Certificate in Health Management is open to all MBA students. Prospective students are not required to declare their interest in the certificate program during the admissions process.
The general Berkeley MBA program requires satisfactory completion of 51 units of coursework consisting of 20 units of core courses and 31 units of elective courses. For the certificate, students are required to take 11 units of health management courses within their 31 elective units. These courses can be completed in one year.
There is no application process for the certificate program. Admitted students should discuss their interest in the certificate with Dr. Kristi Raube, Executive Director of the Graduate Program in Health Management. Dr. Raube may suggest certificate courses that align with students' professional and personal interests. Upon completion of 11 units in health management courses, students are automatically awarded the certificate upon graduation.
Health Management courses
To complete the certificate in health management, a student must take 11 units total, including one required course (3 units):
- MBA 296/PH 223A Introduction to the Healthcare System (3 units) (typically offered in the fall semester only)
A student must also take any combination of the following courses totaling 8 units:
- MBA 215 Economics of the Public and Nonprofit Sectors (3 units)
- MBA 290T Biotech: Industry Perspectives and Business Development (2)
- MBA 290T Entrepreneurship in Biotechnology (1-2)
- MBA 290T Development of Biopharmaceuticals (2)
- MBA 296 Health Technology Finance and Strategy (2)
- MBA 296 Health Technology Policy (2)
- MBA 296 Marketing and Fundraising for Nonprofit and Public Organizations (2)
