NEW GRADS - PhD Graduation Information
All Events are Rain or Shine!
Commencement Ceremony:
The Commencement ceremony will be held in the Wells Fargo Room in the Haas School of Business on Saturday, May 12 at 10:30 AM. You may invite an unlimited number of guests to the ceremony and no tickets are needed.
Instructions for PhD Graduates:
PhD graduates should arrive at the Wells Fargo Room no later than 10:15 AM. Follow instructions and line up in the hall in alphabetical order. You will be in line in front of the faculty. When given the signal, proceed to the podium area of the Wells Fargo Room to your seats in the first row. The first person in line will walk to the farthest seat. Degree candidates will remain standing while the faculty walks in. When the Dean announces the conferral of the PhD degrees (immediately following the Commencement speaker) all PhD candidates please stand and remain in your row. Someone will introduce each PhD candidate individually, When your name is called, walk to the front of your faculty hooder. Your faculty hooder will say a few words about your research. The faculty member will have your hood ready for you. Turn and face the audience; the hood will then be placed over your head. Shake hands with your faculty hooder, then proceed to the podium to shake hands with Dean Campbell and have your picture taken. You may then return to your seat. Remain standing until all are hooded.
While the first candidate is shaking hands with the Dean and being photographed, Someone will announce the next student who will come forward to his/her hooder, be hooded and then shake hands with the Dean and be photographed. The ceremony will last until approximately noon.
Restrooms are located down the hall near the front entrance on the 4th floor of the Haas Student Services wing; the restroom is wheelchair-accessible.
Reception
A brunch reception will be held in the Wells Fargo Room immediately following the ceremony; 12:30 - 2 PM.
Parking
The Kleeberger Lot will be reserved for an alumni event, but we will have spaces reserved for PhD students. Please let the PhD office know if you require a parking space. If you require handicap parking, please let us know and we will reserve a parking space in Kleeberger. Please allow enough time for traffic (it can get very congested around campus during graduation) and parking so that you are on time.

Caps, Gowns, and Announcements
Everything you could possibly want and need for graduation (caps,gowns, announcements, diploma frames) can be found at the ASUC Online Store. The PhD Program will purchase your hood; you should rent or purchase the cap and gown.
Ordering a Diploma and Transcripts
Your diploma comes from the University and will not be available until the fall. Approximately 4 months after your graduation date, you may obtain your diploma in person at the Office of the Registrar, 120 Sproul Hall, or you may request to have it mailed to you. Mailing charges are US$8 within the United States or US$14 outside the United States. If you don't fill out a card before you graduate or if you need a copy of your transcript, you can contact the Registrar's Office directly. Details are available on the Registrar Office's website.
Weather
The Commencement ceremony and reception will be held in the location designated above, rain or shine.
