Thinking differently is the real power of diversity. You don't get to new and creative solutions by putting a bunch of like-minded people together in a room. You get there when you have people who bring their unique voices to the table and come at challenges from many angles and perspectives--and when you are open to those different ways of thinking.

Welcoming these different ways of thinking is the heart of inclusion. At Berkeley Haas, we see our differences as a great source of strength, as a source of innovative ideas and creative accomplishment, and as an opportunity for growth.

With this focus, we frame and inform our teaching and student learning experiences to equip our students to lead in a diverse world. This quest is supported by our shared commitment to our four Defining Leadership Principles:

Question the Status Quo

We lead by championing bold ideas, taking intelligent risks, and accepting sensible failures. This means speaking our minds even when it challenges convention. We thrive at the world’s epicenter of innovation.

Confidence Without Attitude

We make decisions based on evidence and analysis, giving us the confidence to act without arrogance. We lead through trust and collaboration.

Students Always

We are a community designed for curiosity and lifelong pursuit of personal and intellectual growth. This is not a place for those who feel they have learned all they need to learn.

Beyond Yourself

We shape our world by leading ethically and responsibly. As stewards of our enterprises, we take the longer view in our decisions and actions. This often means putting larger interests above our own.

We at Haas share UC Berkeley's commitment to admitting and retaining a diverse student body, as well as to hiring and retaining a diverse faculty and staff. People make this institution what it is, and we are proud of the many identities and rich variety of experiences, ideas, and skills that members of our community bring to our courses, programs, and research.

In sum, diversity is essential to advancing our mission of developing leaders who redefine how we do business.
