Case for Supporting Haas

Cutbacks in state funding have made alumni support more important than ever to help Haas remain a world-class institution. Currently, the Haas School receives only about 10% of its funding from the state.

• Alumni gifts demonstrate widespread support that not only helps Haas compete for the very best faculty and students but is widely reported in business school rankings and surveys.
• Full-time student fees are fixed by the state.
• Private gifts to the Haas School work to maintain its quality and reputation, and ensure excellence—core support for existing programs and seed capital for program development and innovation—for generations of alumni to come.
• A participation rate of 19% of all Haas graduate alumni (18.4% full-time MBA only) gave back to the school in 2007-08 versus the Tuck School (Dartmouth) with 66%, Stanford with 44% and Virginia with 37% in 2007, the latest year for which their results are available. 9% of Haas undergraduate alumni gave back, versus Michigan with 18% (2006 percentage). All-alumni giving in 2008 was 13%.
• Research and scholarship done at Berkeley are transformative and lead to advances that have a positive impact on the world.
• You received a great education and you had a great experience.
