Tom Byers
MBA 80, PhD 83

 

Tom Byers is a professor at Stanford University, where he focuses on technology entrepreneurship education. He is founder of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), which serves as the entrepreneurship center for the engineering school. He is co-author of a popular textbook called Technology Ventures: From Idea to Enterprise. He was given the Gordon Prize from the National Academy of Engineering and received Stanford's highest honor for excellence in teaching (Gores Award). Byers was executive vice president and general manager of Symantec during its formation.
