KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: 1:00pm – 1:45 pm
“The Innovation Eco-System at Haas” - Andersen Auditorium
Prof. Michael Katz, Director, Institute of Management, Innovation and Organization, Haas School of Business
Innovation is central to the success of corporations and non-profit enterprises alike. Indeed, innovation is a critical driver of the economic welfare of nations. It is now widely recognized that no enterprise innovates alone; an enterprise’s success is dependent on the broader innovation eco-system of which it is part. It is also recognized that innovation can come in many forms, including new products, processes, organizational structures, and business models. Professor Katz will discuss the Haas School’s innovation eco-system and what Haas is doing to help other organizations improve their ability to innovate in a wide variety of ways.
Michael Katz, Haas’ Sarin Chair in Strategy and Leadership and Economics Professor, has recently stepped in as Director of the school’s Institute of Management, Innovation and Organization (IMIO). As director of the institute, Michael oversees about ten centers and programs, including the Management of Technology (MOT) program, the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Haas@Work, the school’s applied innovation program in which students drive innovation in larger organizations.
Michael promotes the institute as the central hub, or one-stop shop, that connects Haas faculty and students with outside companies and aims to create even more opportunities with the business world, further enhancing Haas’ reputation as an authority on innovative thinking and problem-solving. In his new leadership role at Haas, Michael will guide IMIO and its centers to do more to bring Haas expertise to the business community through forums and other outlets, filling the public service role of Berkeley’s mission as a public university.
