The Associated Press reported that Bengt Baron, BS 85, MBA 88, and an Olympic gold medallist in swimming in 1980, was appointed president of The Absolut Company, a business of the Swedish company V&S Vin & Sprit AB in October 2001. Baron's responsibilities include the production, marketing, and sales of ABSOLUT, the world's third-best-selling premium spirits brand.

Charged with re-energizing the product line at General Motors, Robert A. Lutz, BS 61, vice chairman for product development has been in the press quite a bit. He was prominently featured in Time Magazine on January 14, 2002 in the article, "Vrroooom at the Top: Legendary Car Developer Bob Lutz was Hired to Give Sleepy GM Some Sex Appeal."

Dilbert creator Scott Adams, MBA 86, was quoted in the New York Times on January 4, 2002, in an article titled "By the Cubicle, The Dilberting of City Hall."

The California Alumni Association named Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, BS 53, alumnus of the year for 2001. Mineta appeared on the cover of the December 2001 issue of California Monthly.

Scott Kucirek, MBA 99, president and cofounder of ZipRealty, is writing a twice-monthly column, "Net Journal," for BusinessWeek Online.

Gordon Stitt, MBA 82, president & CEO of Extreme Networks, was profiled in Varbusiness, on November 26 in its special feature story, "Top 20 Visionaries."

Haas Alumnus, Paul Otellini, MBA 74, was featured in Business Week's October 15 issue in the cover story about the legacy of Intel CEO Craig Barrett.Otellini is now president and COO of Intel.

Karen Southwick, MBA 88, executive editor of Forbes ASAP, profiled fellow alumnae Diana Jovin, MBA 95, for Forbes ASAP. "CascadeWorks' Understated Leader" appeared on Forbes.com on October 10.

The Christian Science Monitor featured Punita Pandey, MBA 91, founder of netCustomer.com, on September 24, 2001 in an article titled, "The New American Dreamers."

Emmanuel Savioz, MBA 00, described the attacks of September 11, which he witnessed, to a French journal, Le Temps on September 13.
