Develop a new web page?
The Haas School provides web server space and web support for departments, programs, courses, and student groups within Haas or sponsored by Haas and provides server space for individual pages for Haas faculty, staff, and students. Support is limited; see http://groups.haas.berkeley.edu/HCS/howdoi.html or contact helpdesk and ask for help on developing a web page. Here's a template for personal websites you can start with. How do I learn how to develop a web page?
Many online and real-world training resources are available
to Haas students, faculty, and staff.
Do-it-yourself tips: Here´s an extensive list of web sites that can help you learn HTML, web design tips, and the like.
Classes and online training: If you´d like some web development training, here's a list of training resources with ways you can learn HTML, Adobe GoLive, Microsoft FrontPage, and other web software through computer-based training, classes offered at UC Berkeley, and training resources off campus.
Launching your new site: When you´re all ready to launch your page, here's how to get a spot on the Haas server.
How do I learn how to use web editing software?
On-demand training is not provided. However, Haas Computer Services and the Haas online marketing team can provide you with book recommendations and helpful web site links. Training is provided by Haas Computing Services and at these UC locations.
How do I know which software to use and where can I get a copy of it?
Haas Computing Services and the Haas online marketing team recommend and support Adobe GoLive and Microsoft FrontPage for the development and editing of web pages. Computers in the Haas Computing Services lab are loaded with both of these products. Faculty and staff can purchase this software for use on their own computers through the helpdesk. Students can purchase software through The Scholar's Workstation.
How do I set up a web page for my department/unit/institute/project/student organization/course?
The online marketing team provides consulting for faculty and staff web sites hosted on the Haas School's two central web servers. The online marketing team provides advice and recommendations to the Haas School's official web page editors. Due to our small size and constrained resources, only limited support for student projects is available. Review the online marketing team Service Level Agreement for details on the services available.
New faculty and staff web projects are supported to the extent online marketing team resources and staff are available. Management pre-approval is required. With the exception of the top-level pages of the Haas web site, the Haas online marketing team does not produce web content or maintain Haas web sites. If you are a faculty or staff member and want to request work on a new project, submit a detailed Project Request form to the helpdesk. (Contact helpdesk for a copy of the form.) Students who need help should contact the HCS Multimedia Coordinator
How do I update information on my faculty page?
If you are a faculty member and want to update information on your official faculty directory page (found at http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/faculty/), contact the online marketing team via the helpdesk with the changes you would like made. The online marketing team does not update older versions of the faculty directory or faculty members' personal home pages.
How do I upload my web page once it's developed?
If you are a faculty or staff member, contact the helpdesk for instructions. Students who need help should contact the HCS Multimedia Coordinator.
How do I fix something on my web page?
You are responsible for maintaining the information on the page you develop. Haas and UC Berkeley offer a number of training opportunities and resources.
How do I add events to the Haas Events Calendar?
Haas faculty members and staff members and students who are club presidents can add events to the Haas Events Calendar. Contact the helpdesk for passwords and instructions.
How do I add news to the Top Stories page?
The Marketing and Communications Department maintains the News and Publications page of the Haas web site. To make suggestions or comments about the page, contact the helpdesk.
Where do I go when I have a question about...?
Haas Computing Services and the Marketing and Communications online team share helpdesk responsibilities for web-related requests. If you have a web-related question, submit a message to the helpdesk and a online marketing team member or Haas Computing Services staff person will reply.
Who do I tell about a problem I've found on a Haas web page?
Each department maintains its own web site. When you find a problem with a Haas web site, send a message to the contact individual identified on that site. If no contact information is provided, contact the helpdesk and we will identify the individual who can fix the problem you've found.
How do I get an answer to a question that's not listed here?
Haas Computing Services and the Marketing and Communications web group share responsibilities for web-related issues. If you have a question about the Haas web site or about developing or maintaining your Haas site, submit a message to the helpdesk and a online marketing team member or Haas Computing Services staff person will reply.
