Departmental Overview
The Haas School of Business is a large and complex single-department school at the University of California, Berkeley. The Haas School’s 80 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 90 professional faculty offer six degree programs serving nearly 2,500 students. The office of Academic Affairs & Instruction (AAI) coordinates and administers the School’s academic personnel and instructional activities. The AAI group is comprised of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Senior Assistant Dean for Instruction, a Director of Academic Planning, and eight staff responsible for coordinating the group’s functions and activities.
The Instructional Analyst drafts the annual schedule for all courses, taking into consideration faculty leaves, preferences, and workload obligations; classroom availability; and historical and projected enrollments. The individual independently obtains classrooms for courses, taking into account the requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office. The Instructional Analyst also issues workload reports to faculty and conducts analyses of classroom usage and faculty workload, among other things.
The Instructional Analyst is at the center of a fast-paced organization. She/he regularly handles concurrent projects, many of which involve moving parts and competing deadlines. The incumbent must be organized and highly attentive to detail to succeed.
Responsibilities
• Drafts schedule of courses to be offered each term based upon a provided course listing, enrollment trends, and faculty availability.
• Consults with Campus Scheduling Office and instructors on issues regarding obtaining appropriate classrooms and advises faculty or senior level manager on options.
• Works with other departments to set up cross-listed and room-shared courses.
• Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on a variety of instructional data points to department management.
• Provides analytical support and advice for all proposed curricular changes and new curricular initiatives.
• Provides information to faculty, visiting instructors, and staff about scheduling procedures and practices and enrollment needs.
• Prepares and submits course approval forms to the Committee on Courses of the Academic Senate when the department proposes additions, changes, or withdrawals of courses.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
• Excellent attention to detail and deadlines
• Ability to multi-task and to juggle competing requests and priorities
• Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, students, and degree program staff.
• Ability to identify problems and trends, analyze them, and provide solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs, including CSIR, DB2, and the Tele-Bears enrollment system.
• Knowledge of department, campus, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
• Knowledge of department and school/college general and major course requirements.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this fulltime, career position is up to $53,400 annually, commensurate with experience.
