Departmental Overview
The Haas School of Business is a large and complex single-department school at the University of California, Berkeley. Berkeley-Haas offers six degree programs serving nearly 2,500 students. The Analyst position supports the school’s instructional mission by analyzing evaluations of some 325 courses each semester, preparing informative reports that communicate teaching strengths, areas for improvement, and school-wide trends.
The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at Haas promotes teaching excellence, fosters a teaching culture, and works with professional and ladder faculty to deliver the highest quality instruction in the classroom. Responsibilities
· Prepares high-level statistical and analytical summaries of course evaluation data, including school-wide averages and statistical trends.
· Supplements quantitative evaluation results with aggregated qualitative data from student comments.
· Supervises and trains a team of 6-10 student employees in accurate data collection and analysis of the qualitative data.
· Using established procedures (or established methods of comparison), compares early semester assessment with late semester assessment to determine if teaching quality is improving for faculty clients of the Center for Teaching Excellence.
· Tracks number of faculty served by the Center for Teaching Excellence.
· Assists in the conversion of paper-based data collection into a web-based system. Coordinate efforts with Haas Computing Services for implementation of new technologies.
· Develops relationships with key staff and faculty that may lead to new program development. Serves as a liaison for the Center for Teaching Excellence with the campus Office of Teaching and Learning and other campus entities.
Required Qualifications
· Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs.
· Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
· Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
· Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
· Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
· Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
· Ability to seek and gather various forms of information on a complex topic, organize the information in a rational and understandable manner, identify critical points of concern or impact, and devise solutions to achieve a desired outcome.
· Demonstrated ability and experience at examining, documenting, and redesigning work processes in a very complex business environment.
· Ability to track successfully multiple items to their conclusion while adhering to deadlines.
· Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this 60%-100% variable part-time appointment will be prorated. It will range between $42,000 to $60,000 annually at 100%
