Departmental Overview
This position oversees MBA career advising and programs for the Haas School of Business and manages team of internal and external career advisors. Involves planning, developing, and implementing programs, activities, and career advising focused on students' career search and leadership development. Works primarily with students but also with alumni, career-related vendors, and potential employers.
Responsibilities
Ensures that professional MBA Career Services Advisors are providing the full range of career services pertaining to the specific career program.
• Manages team of internal and external advisors who coach students based on areas of expertise. Keeps adjunct advisors abreast of current trends and resources available to students,
• Provides professional one-on-one career coaching to MBAs and maintains high profile as an effective career advisor to peers and students.
• Oversees budget and metrics for career advising and programs for full-time MBA students.
Provides assistance, guidance, and direction on complex and particularly sensitive issues and situations.
• Plans and leads regular information exchanges internally among advisors, to keep advising staff current on market trends and share information across programs.
• Actively participates in staff meetings, sharing insights from student meetings and trends in industry.
Provides feedback to management on gaps of service to clients, and recommends changes/enhancements to the program. Develops and implements annual strategic and operations plan for career development curriculum for full-time MBAs.
• Launches innovative career initiatives targeted at appropriate industry, function, and demographics, based on student needs and competitive environment
• Oversees evolution of annual 2-day Career Management Conference for MBAs seeking internships (Oct.) and Orientation Week activities for new MBAs.
Works closely with others in Haas community
• Ensures smooth working relationships with other campus departments, external schools, districts, corporations, and other organizations related to career programs.
• Works closely with the Director of Career Services for part-time programs to support needs of the Evening & Weekend MBA students (EWMBAs), who participate actively in the programs for FT MBAs.
• Manages internal and external marketing of career services programs
• Facilitates networking opportunities among students and alumni/contacts in industry.
Monitors employee performance and provides direction and assistance.
• Counsels, evaluates and trains employees
• Recommends disciplinary action, hiring, and separation of employees when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Strong business background or experience advising MBAs on business careers
• Advanced knowledge of career development theories, MBA career paths, counseling processes, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
• Knowledge of workshop and program design.
• Knowledge of career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
• Ability to design and modify computer applications and to meet program needs, problem identification, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills.
• Strong project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and audiences simultaneously.
• Highly effective teaching, counseling, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work with people from diverse cultures and groups.
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA or Masters degree in career counseling.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this position will range up to $80,000 annually.
