Departmental Overview

The Haas School of Business develops innovative leaders --- individuals who redefine how we do business.  Berkeley-Haas, second oldest business school in the United States, educates 2,200 students each year in six degree-granting programs, and hundreds more through executive education programs.  A team of 300 staff members supports these students, faculty and alumni through work in areas that include Admissions, Student Services, Career Management,  Administration, and Development.

The Haas School’s Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership prepares leaders with the practical business skills to found, lead, manage, and govern nonprofit and public organizations.  The center provides business students with the opportunity to augment the core business curriculum with specialized coursework, practical application, and career opportunities in public and nonprofit management.

The David and Lucille Packard Foundation is a private family foundation created in 1964.  The Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations in the following core program areas: Conservation and Science; Population; and Children, Families and Communities.  For more than 40 years, the David and Lucille Packard Foundation has supported an array of nonprofit organizations in local communities.  Currently, through its Local Grantmaking Program, it provides both general and project support to nonprofit organizations in the counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Monterey and also in Pueblo, Colorado, the birthplace of the founder.

The Center and the Foundation have partnered to create this unique position for an outstanding individual to pursue post-academic opportunities within a professional learning experience in the philanthropic sector.  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in relevant professional development and program offerings at the Center and the Foundation.

Responsibilities

Applies professional concepts to perform analysis of data and systems pertaining to moderately complex projects, policies and/or processes and functions.

Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports and/or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues and commenting on other significance for internal department constituents.
In doing so, interacts with Foundation staff, grantees, funding partners, government agencies, and content experts as needed to complete assigned projects.

Prepares, edits and modifies documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations and proposals and presents them to Foundation staff, grantees, and/or funding partners.

Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions, meetings of high level management and external constituents

On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, programs and issues.

Proposed projects in strategic marketing include:
Local Grantmaking strategic marketing
•  Conduct a detailed internal audit of the Local Grantmaking program, its goals, grantees, strategy and successes;
•  Inform the creation of the next 2-year strategic plan for the program;
•  Meet with key internal stakeholders to gather recommendations to shape a successful strategic plan.;
•  Plan and execute a branding campaign focused on constituent adoption of new program goals and direction;
•  Highlight and incorporate key levers for strategy adoption of the new plan.

CNPL market analysis
•  Complete a communications and brand audit of the marketing collateral produced by the Center;
•  Conduct a comprehensive market analysis of the needs of key stakeholders for the Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership;
•  Create a strategic roadmap for aligning the Center’s marketing channels and messages with the mission of the Center;
•  Update the strategic communications plan to include brand considerations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both orally and in writing.
•  Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
•  Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
•  Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
•  Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
•  Demonstrated ability to structure analysis, perform synthesis, and provide written reports and presentations that meet project objectives and timelines
•  Demonstrated strong initiative, self-motivation, and ability to efficiently manage multiple simultaneous projects in diverse subprogram areas
•  Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player
•  Knowledge of and experience with nonprofit issues
•  Proficiency with Microsoft Windows software including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
•  Professional and responsive demeanor: efficient, knowledgeable, tactful, and confidential

Preferred Qualifications

•  Graduate level education in business, social science, public policy, public health, social work, social science, ecuation, economics, law, medicine, or related fields preferred.

Salary & Benefits

The salary for this contract position will range between $3,500 per month up to $5,833.33 per month plus benefits.

Other Information

This is an off-site, full-time contract position and is classified as a Project/Policy Analyst 2 .
