The Office of Marketing and Communications designs and implements a comprehensive, unified marketing and communications effort for the Haas School of Business and its degree and non-degree instructional programs, research centers, public service activities, and external relations activities.  The Office is responsible for managing the Haas School/UC Berkeley “brand” image by providing strategic marketing and communications advice and planning to the Dean, the Dean’s Council, program directors, other senior staff and faculty throughout the School.  The Office is also responsible for developing and managing a broad range of initiatives in marketing, communications (print and web-based, as well as other marketing communications channels), media relations, and community relations to promote greater external understanding and recognition of the Haas School’s contributions. 

The Senior Marketing Communications Manager -- Development and Alumni Relations provides broad strategic and specific tactical marketing communications support and services, as well as consulting, to the School’s development and alumni relations programs and activities. The purpose of the position is to align the marketing and communications efforts of the Development and Alumni Relations Office with the broader marketing communications plan for the Haas School.

Responsibilities

The Senior Marketing Communications Manager -- Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for providing high quality, professional strategies for and tactical support of marketing communications for development and alumni relations efforts at the Haas School.  The duties require someone who can bring an innovative, creative approach to all efforts.  The Senior Manager is responsible for the creation and implementation of a marketing communications plan for development and alumni relations, to be developed in concert with the broader marketing communications plan for Haas School. The major emphasis of the position is supporting the marketing communications aspects of the Haas Capital Campaign (via print and electronic/online communications; researching and writing new materials, such as donor profiles; message development; etc.).  This includes editorial and production assistance with campaign case statements and general fund raising and alumni materials, such as the regular campaign-related insert in the Berkeley-Haas magazine.  Another key responsibility is to develop creative concepts, positioning, and messages for articles, letters, brochures, talking points, and other written pieces, either for print or online. The incumbent is also responsible for writing copy for and the editing of these communications. The incumbent will develop and coordinate the production of other materials (videos, online presentations, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, talking points, memoranda, statements, etc.), as needed.  The Senior Manager will work with members of the team on Web 2.0/new media online communications capabilities (social media, online video, etc.) in the promotion of Haas School for fundraising and alumni relations purposes.  Other duties include supervision of multiple part-time and/or freelance professional assistants and vendors.

We are recruiting a skilled writer who also has demonstrated experience in development and alumni communications and in online marketing channels.

Required Qualifications

•  An undergraduate bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
•  Demonstrated success in producing effective print publications and other promotional devices, including electronic and online. 
•  A deep understanding of the techniques of marketing communications and experience in successfully employing them. 
•  Superior writing and editing skills and extensive understanding of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
•  Ability to work effectively with a wide range of clients and constituencies, and function effectively as the member of a team.
•  Experience in working with outside vendors, including writers and editors, designers, photographers and illustrators, advertising agencies, and printers.
•  Willingness to work in a client-oriented environment.
•  Attention to detail and accuracy.
•  Strong organizational skills and ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.
•  An understanding of the web environment for marketing purposes is strongly preferred.
•  Research ability through library, interviews, and Internet resources.
•  Ability to work independently. 
•  Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Salary & Benefits

The salary for this exempt fulltime career position will range from $63,900 annually up to $80,000 annually plus benefits.

This position requires some local or domestic travel estimated at 5% time.
