Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers on The New Economy
Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers spoke at the Haas School on December 6, 2000. In his talk, presented as part of the Haas
Business Faculty Research Dialogue, Summers, Treasuring Secretary under President Clinton, discussed the new economy and the factors that define
it as new. He cited three defining changes: rapid, dramatic developments in technology; the rise and decentralization of markets; and tremendous
global integration. He then identified five principles of economic policy that the Clinton administration has applied to address these changes
and that will be most effective for the US in the years ahead. The excerpts in this video outline those five principles.
