Departmental Overview

The Haas School Business ("Berkeley Haas") is one of the per-eminent business schools in the world. The school employs ~ 80 FTE ladder faculty, 130 professional faculty and 230 FTE staff serving 2,200 students in six degree programs—three of which are "self-supporting." In addition, the school is home to a strong and growing Executive Education unit which serves both domestic and international executives. Berkeley Haas supports a multitude of research, teaching and public service institutes as well as two research laboratories, the Long Business Library, and an on-site café. Staff is organized across many functions including admissions, career services, computing, financial aid, student affairs, payroll, business services and facilities. The school provides business and financial leadership/expertise to the campus and is served by an international advisory board of business and industry leaders.

Role Overview

The Relationship Manager at the Haas School is the principal resource for managing employer relations in designated industries. The role involves activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging employers through programs, events, products, and services. He/she translates constituent needs and priorities into customized programs to create, enhance, and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies. He/she partners with Development and student clubs to ensure recruiter funds are targeted appropriately. Constituencies include alumni, business community, prospective and current employers, corporate partners, and current and prospective students from multiple programs.

Responsibilities

The Relationship Manager at the Haas School is the principal resource for managing employer relations in designated industries, Involves activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging employers through programs, events, products, and services; partners with Development and student clubs to ensure recruiter funds are targeted appropriately. Constituencies include alumni, business community, prospective and current employers, corporate partners, and current and prospective students from multiple programs. Translates constituent needs and priorities into customized programs to create, enhance, and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies.

Develops and implements programs, events and/or communication strategies designed to inform employers of institutional programs, activities, policies, and practices; constituencies may include the business community, prospective and current employers, corporate partners, and current and prospective students from multiple programs

  • Aggressively identify and contact companies about recruiting Haas students, both on and off campus.
  • Work proactively with recruiting companies in designated industries to strengthen their relationships with Haas. Assist them in developing and executing recruiting and marketing strategies.
  • Work with other offices at Haas, including faculty and the marketing, development, continuing education, and alumni offices to develop comprehensive relationships between companies and Haas.
  • Promote the Haas program and students at industry conferences and events and regularly communicate with potential employers about recruiting activities available through Haas.
  • Broaden the number of opportunities provided within existing recruiting companies, actively promoting the school in other divisions and groups. Support the efforts of part-time MBA job seekers by finding experienced hire opportunities or midyear internships.
  • Build long term relationships with students and alumni in mid and senior level positions. Facilitate networking opportunities among students and alumni/contacts in industry.
  • Communicate with companies to facilitate schedule confirmations and changes; coordinate changes.
  • Promote employment, networking, and corporate sponsorship opportunities to appropriate student populations.
  • Respond to inquiries from employers, prospective employers, corporate partners, alumni, students, and prospective students in a timely fashion (24 hours for employers).

Support student career search

  • Work with student clubs to ensure alignment of student career desires with plans to target companies and to provide general recruiter feedback on their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Work with club leadership to increase opportunities for networking and employment.
  • Ensure that students have current information about specific job markets and about recruiter perceptions by educating career advisors and communicating directly with students.
  • Provide advice to individual students desiring to pursue careers at designated employers.
  • Support student clubs that wish to raise funds from designated employers.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong customer service orientation. Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with MBA populations.
  • Thorough knowledge of at least one of the designated industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of the campus, its mission, goals, objectives, programs, achievements, infrastructure and issues of concern.
  • written, verbal and interpersonal communications, tact and political acumen to effectively represent the campus, including skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies.
  • Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identifying real and potential problems, advising management as required, and proposing effective strategic resolutions.
  • Skill in project management, including event planning and meeting deadlines.
  • Patience and the ability to respond clearly and calmly to demanding customers in person, on the phone, and via email.
  • Comfort with office, database, and online applications.
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA preferred.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $70,000- $75,000.
