WHAT: The 6th annual University of California, Berkeley, Business Plan Competition helps UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco students and alumni turn innovative ideas into real businesses. Seven finalists for 2004 will compete for a total of $52,500 in prizes and share their business ideas with the public at the final event on Thursday, April 29.
New this year is the "Best of UC Berkeley/UC San Francisco Tech Prize," a $7,500 award for the team that best uses UC Berkeley or UCSF research as an integral part of its plan and promises significant benefit to society.

Analog Micro Display: This MBA/College of Engineering/Lawrence Berkeley Lab venture offers UXGA or HDTV resolution color imaging at low cost or low power.
AVx Inc.: UCSF researchers have developed a low risk or low cost sedation device to reduce or eliminate the need for pharmacological sedation.
DFM Technologies: This business/engineering team offers cost-reducing Pattern Matcher software to improve semiconductor design for manufacturing.
Nanosense: A nanotech-enabled ultra-sensitive sensor platform lets doctors gather molecular details of a patient's disease and tailor treatment.
Proton Power: CalTech energy technology provides cost effective, efficient and clean fuel cell power systems for transportation applications.
Silicon Clocks: An engineering team's MEMS-based oscillators save energy and add functionality to cell phones and wireless applications.
Triadge: This MBA/engineering team's software for media planners helps streamline, unify and optimize performance-based Internet media campaigns.
