Margo Alexander
Chair
Acumen Fund

 

Margo Alexander is currently the Chair of the Acumen Fund, a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. Margo was formerly a senior executive of PaineWebber, where she spent the greater part of her thirty-three year career in the financial services industry. Beginning as a research analyst, she later became Director of Research, then Director of Institutional Equity and, in 1995, CEO of Mitchell Hutchins Asset Management. She was a member of the PaineWebber executive committee until the firm's acquisition by UBS in November 2000. Ms. Alexander is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where she met her husband, Robert Alexander. She has lived in New York since 1970 and has two sons. Ms. Alexander is a member of the advisory boards of the Haas School at Berkeley and The New School, serves on the board of the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee and is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations.

Aron CramerAron Cramer
President & CEO
Business for Social Responsibility


Aron Cramer is President and CEO of Business for Social Responsibility (BSR). Prior to assuming the  post of President and CEO,he was based in Paris, where he launched BSR's Europe office in 2002. He also led the establishment of BSR's Hong Kong office in 2001. Cramer joined BSR in 1995 and served as  the founding director of its Business and Human Rights Program.


Cramer has worked closely with dozens of BSR's member companies in numerous industry sectors, providing advice and counsel on the full spectrum of CSR issues, including Ford Motor Co., Chevron, Nike, Unilever, Royal Dutch/Shell, Novartis, Novo Nordisk and Rio Tinto. He has also provided support and counsel to many of the leading CSR initiatives in recent years, including the UN Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, and the Fair Labor Association. He has worked extensively with the World Bank, the US Agency for International Development and other public institutions.


Prior to joining BSR, Cramer served as an attorney in private practice in San Francisco and at ABC News in New York. He is a graduate of Tufts University and obtained his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He was born and raised in Los Angeles.


Cramer speaks frequently before industry audiences and in other fora, and has been widely quoted in media outlets including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, National Public Radio and others. In 2004, he co-edited Raising the Bar, a publication providing guidance on implementation of the UN Global Compact principles.

Carol Dudley
Carol DudleySenior Vice President, Basic Chemicals Division
The Dow Chemical Company

 

As senior vice president of Dow’s Basic Chemicals Division, Carol Dudley is charged with overseeing one of Dow’s two divisions operating as part of the Joint Ventures/Asset Light and Basics Operating Model. Basics has always been one of Dow’s great strengths and enables success for downstream partners through low-cost production. Some of the businesses included in the Basic Chemicals Division are Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol, EDC/VCM, ECU, Chlor-Alkali, Chlorinated Organics and Calcium Chloride.

 

Dudley joined Dow in 1980, starting as an engineer in R&D for plastic films and foams in the Granville Research Center. In 1991, she worked at the Louisiana Operations facility on the development of styrene butadiene/isoprene block copolymers as part of a Dow/Exxon joint partnership. In 1993, she took on the director’s role for the Analytical Science Lab in Midland, Michigan. And in 1995, she moved to Texas as the global R&D director for the Epoxy Products and Intermediates Business.

 

Four years later, Dudley was named the North America Chlor-Alkali Assets business operations leader and site leader for Oyster Creek in Freeport, Texas, where she also served as chairperson of the CAER committee for Brazoria County. She became business vice president for Chlor-Alkali Assets in 2000, and was named vice president of Global Purchasing in 2003. The following year, Dudley became R&D vice president for Hydrocarbons & Energy, Chemicals & Intermediates and Core (Corporate R&D).

 

In 2005, she was named vice president of Business Development for Market Facing Businesses; and in 2006 she was named vice president of Research & Development for Dow’s Performance Plastics & Chemicals Portfolio.

 

From 2007 to 2008, Dudley served as corporate vice president for Dow’s Market Facing, Business Development and Licensing Portfolio, which included Dow Automotive, Dow Building Solutions, Dow Coating Solutions, Dow Footwear, Dow Oil & Gas and several other potential market facing businesses in development. Dudley’s portfolio also included Dow Technology Licensing & Catalyst, and Ventures & Business Development. Carol was named to her current role at the end of 2008.

 

Dudley earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and received an Executive MBA at Indiana University. She is an advisory board member for the Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon University and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers.

Silvia Garrigo

Manager of Global Issues and Policy

Chevron

 

Silvia M. Garrigo is Manager of Global Issues and Policy for Chevron’s Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) organization.  She leads the team that manages Chevron’s corporate responsibility and global policy issues such as human rights, revenue transparency and climate change.  Silvia and her team are also responsible for making corporate policy recommendations to senior level management. Silvia leads stakeholder engagement with non-governmental organizations, shareholders, socially responsibly investor groups, employees, think tanks, multi-stakeholder voluntary initiatives, academic institutions and policy organizations on corporate responsibility through specific outreach, speaking engagements and the annual Corporate Responsibility Report.

 

Prior to joining PGPA, Silvia practiced law for 20 years, as in-house counsel for multinational corporations and as a lawyer with major international law firms.  Silvia joined Chevron in 2002 as Senior Counsel in Chevron’s Legal Department. Prior to joining Chevron, Silvia held the positions as Executive Vice President for Legal Affairs at Telefónica S.A.; Founding Partner of Aballi, Milne, Kalil & Garrigo; Counsel at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; and Counsel at Hornsby and Whisenand as a transactional advisor for international business transactions, and as a litigator in domestic and transnational litigation.  She also served as an Adjunct Professor at Miami Dade Community College. 

 

A native of Miami, Florida of Cuban heritage, Silvia received her Juris Doctorate from The University of Miami in 1987 where she was a member of the Law Review. She received an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, cum laude, from Boston College in 1983. 

 

Silvia speaks English, Spanish, and French.

Gary Elliott
Vice President, Corporate and Brand Marketing
Hewlett-Packard


Gary Elliott is responsible for leading HP’s Corporate Marketing assets and in creating a worldwide brand valued by customers andemployees. Elliott is known for his ability to inspire and pursue new approaches in creating and growing brand value. He challenges his marketing teams to think dynamically, take prudent risks and continually experiment with new ways to build relevance with customers. He has successfully expanded the HP brand into new territories and new demographics by pioneering programs both within the HP global marketing community as well as through communities, partnerships and initiatives outside the company.


In his current role, Elliott leads HP’s Brand Development, Strategy and Standards; Philanthropy, Environmental Marketing, Privacy, Industrial Design, Marketing Alliances and Sponsorships, Corporate Events, Executive Briefing Centers, Emerging Media Technologies, and other marketing communications activities. He is a member of HP’s Global Marketing Council.


Elliott was instrumental in merging the HP and Compaq brands when the companies joined in May 2002. He has garnered a number of recognized marketing awards during his tenure for HP, including the prestigious Art Directors Club Annual Vision Award, AdWeek Magazine's Campaign of the Year, Creativity Magazine's International Advertiser of the Year, the Cannes Gold Lion for Media, and Effie awards for marketing effectiveness. He has also received 11 international film awards for spearheading the historical documentary film “HP Origins”, which was an authentic record exploring HP’s celebrated history. Elliott was recently< named by Advertising Age as one of the top 25 Power Players in Marketing for 2007.


Elliott also oversees HP’s One Voice efforts, a cross-company marketing initiative to establish a world-class integrated brand for HP. Essential to the company’s post-merger re-branding efforts, One Voice has helped build the industry’s most consistent, cohesive brand across product lines and geographies. This global initiative has been referenced in a number of marketing journals as a model for building brand identity---as well as saving the company hundreds of millions of dollars.


Prior to the merger Elliott was Vice President, Worldwide Integrated Marketing Communications at Compaq. Before joining Compaq in May 2000, Elliott was President, IBM Services Asia Pacific for Ogilvy Mather, headquartered in Tokyo and responsible for marketing communications in 14 countries.

Matt Kistler
Matt KistlerSenior Vice President, Sustainability
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

 

Matt has been in a leadership position for the company’s sustainability initiatives since 2005, serving as Captain of the Packaging Sustainable Value Network and driving sustainable product innovation and new business development initiatives.  As Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Matt leads the office responsible for Wal-Mart’s environmental sustainability strategy worldwide.  This includes integrating sustainability into business unit strategy and encouraging the company's 1.8 million associates to participate personally and incorporate sustainability into their programs.  

 

As the Captain of the Packaging Sustainable Value Network, Matt helped develop initiatives to reduce packaging in Wal-Mart’s supply chain by five percent to be accomplished by 2013.  Several initiatives undertaken by the Network during Matt’s leadership included reducing packaging in private label products, encouraging suppliers to find environmentally friendly solutions to their packaging, and working with the packaging team to launch the packaging scorecard which scores suppliers on the sustainability of their packaging. 

 

Matt joined Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in November of 2003 as the Director of Private Brands for SAM’S CLUB.  In 2004, he became a corporate officer as the Vice President of Product Development, Private Brands, Packaging and Quality Testing.  Matt was appointed Vice President of Product and Packaging Innovation for SAM'S CLUB in 2006. In 2007, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing, Research and Insights for SAM’S CLUB and in October of 2007 he was named Senior Vice President, Sustainability for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Matt held management positions with General Foods, Oscar Mayer and Kraft Foods.

 

Matt has a B.A. in Marketing from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI., and a M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Art PeckArt Peck
Executive Vice President, Strategy & Operations

Gap Inc.


Art Peck is Executive Vice President, Strategy & Operations, of Gap Inc. This role includes responsibility for corporate strategy and global business development. Gap Inc.’s Strategic Alliances business unit (franchise operations) reports to him, as do the global logistics, procurement, facilities, construction and architecture functions.


He also serves as the acting President for Gap Inc. Outlet, with responsibility for Gap Outlet and Banana Republic Factory Stores.


Peck came to Gap Inc. in May 2005 from The Boston Consulting Group, an international strategy and general management consulting firm, where he was a Senior Vice President and Director.


Peck serves as a trustee on the board of Gap Foundation. He is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
