About the Center

As a premier educational center bridging research, theory, and practice of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Center for Responsible Business strives to educate all of its stakeholders on the roles and responsibilities of business in society. Integrating interests in three key focus areas - CSR strategy development, metrics, and social enterprise, the Center organizes its innovative activities in four key functional areas:

Research

Fostering CSR research in both the academic and practitioner arenas, the Center has a variety of innovative research activities under its umbrella, which include: the newly-launched Sustainable Products & Solutions (SPS) Program, Corporate Social Responsibility Working Paper Series, and Moskowitz Research Program.

Teaching

Offered at all degree levels, the Center offers a robust series of CSR-focused elective courses that range in topics from business ethics, strategic CSR, stakeholder engagement, and social entrepreneurship. Included in this series is one of the country's most innovative courses - Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility & Projects - a unique classroom experience that connects students with senior executives at top firms to develop strategies to create competitive advantage through positive social impact.

Experiential Learning

To bridge the gap between academia and the business world, the Center collaborates with companies on experiential learning engagements to get students out of the classroom and into real businesses where they can apply their newly learned theories and frameworks of CSR in real-time strategy work.

Outreach

The Center hosts a variety of innovative outreach programs to help carry the CSR message out into the larger world. Through these activities, the Center brings corporate leaders to Haas with the Peterson Lecture Series, fosters collaborative partnership projects through Corporate Sponsorship, supports CSR-minded Haas MBAs through the student-led Net Impact Club and student-run Global Social Venture Competition, and disseminates research and information through its web-based resource center.
